“Working at Bonjour NY is great because not only does it allow me to utilize my native language, but it also helps me spread knowledge about the French language and the Francophone culture. Furthermore, I have made great friends at camp and my experience helped me discover what it is like to work. The energy, the skills, and the ability to communicate clearly needed to be a good counselor have and will continue to help in my professional and personal life.”
Bonjour NY welcomes multiple applications and would be happy to consider you for more than one position. All applicants must be fluent in French.
Our Philosophy
TEACH LANGUAGE THROUGH FUN. Our camp philosophy is simple. We want our campers to have fun through learning, friendship and adventure. During their time with us, we also want all campers to become more self-assured and self-confident. All of this takes place in a great camp atmosphere with a diverse and unique program. Bonjour NY camp operates on a full French immersion environment.
About our Staff
Having a good match between staff and camp is very important. We look for staff who are fluent in French/Spanish/Mandarin and have strong skills in a teaching area, plus a GENUINE interest in working with children. We hire staff who come to camp to “give of themselves” to campers. Our staff also have the necessary levels of maturity, common sense, dependability, trust, and selflessness required in working with children. We have high expectations and requirements for behavior. All program staff are activity instructors or assistants.
Important Dates
Bonjour Language Camps operates a nine-week summer season, as well as a week of pre-camp staff training and orientation in late June. During the “staff week”, we learn songs, games and set up equipment. Intensive briefings also take place on camp operation, policies and camper reviews. It is both a fun and busy week. Bonjour Language Camps also offers additional certification trainings to our team members in May and June: Lifeguarding, CPR… Campers attend camp during the day and go home at night. Bonjour Language Camps sponsors visas for international staff. International staff must make their own housing arrangements.
Staff Positions
We teach over 20 activities at camp. Our large staff enables us to give in-depth quality instruction to camper of all ages and abilities. Staff members participate in all the activities: arts, swimming, sports… All camp activities are conducted in the target language. Camp is concentrated, structured and demanding. Applicants must be available to work at camp during the whole nine-week sessions and for the pre-camp training session.
Available Positions
If you are interested in joining our staff, please fill out the staff application in detail. We will contact you about the availability of a position and arrange a personal interview. We check very carefully the references you provide. We inquire about your ability to relate with children specifically and with all types of people in general. We ask about your work habits, manners, personality, willingness to pitch in and a host of other factors which we think predict success at this setting. If you have a genuine interest in working with children, we encourage you to apply.
